Part I starts in the thirteenth century, covering Ugo and Tederico dei Borgognoni, Rolando da Parma, Guglielmo da Saliceto, Bartolomeo da Varignana. For the fourteenth century and fifteenth century, lists of doctor-surgeon 'lettori' are given. A portrait of Iacopo Berengario da Carpi is reproduced. Part II begins with the Renaissance, listing hospitals and giving a general description of medical care, listing the doctor 'lettori' of the sixteenth century, giving a brief curriculum vitae for each. Title pages of various writings as well as portraits of these men are also reproduced. The same is done for the seventeenth century, the names are listed with available portraits reproduced alongside their curricula vitae. The same information is given for the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, designated those who taught and the places they taught. Bound in gray paper boards, printed on good polished paper, this copy is signed and inscribed by the author 'All'illustri Prof. Cesare Barbieri ... omaggi cordiale...' dated 1949. A very good copy, slight shelf wear to the extremities of the spine, endpapers with scattered light foxing)
